PORTLAND, OR (July 1, 2009) \u2013 The children\u2019s ministry during the 124th Annual Meeting of the Evangelical Covenant Church gave kids an opportunity to serve in new ways.

\nChildren made baby blankets that were donated to the Northwest Children’s Outreach<\/a> (NCO) program. The students delivered the blankets to the NCO warehouse where they also packed clothing for children in need.<\/p>\n

The kids also made activity bags for Shepherd\u2019s Door, which is the women and children\u2019s division of the local rescue mission. The students delivered the bags to the mission, too.<\/p>\n

The children\u2019s ministry also held a \u201ccarnival to feed the hungry.\u201d The kids won tickets at booth games and turned them in for cans of food that were then donated to the Oregon Food Bank.<\/p>\n

Claudine Beckley, who organized the children\u2019s ministry this year, explained that it is important for children to give, and not just hear about Christ\u2019s love, if they are truly going to experience it.<\/p>\n

The ministry was rooted in Mark 12:30-31: \u201cLove the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: \u2018Love your neighbor as yourself.\u2019 There is no commandment greater than these.\u201d<\/p>\n

Depending on their age, students also visited the zoo or a local park.<\/p>\n
