{"id":7456,"date":"2006-07-19T13:43:42","date_gmt":"2006-07-19T18:43:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/newswire\/?p=7456"},"modified":"2011-07-06T08:33:41","modified_gmt":"2011-07-06T13:33:41","slug":"5037","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/newswire\/2006\/07\/19\/5037\/","title":{"rendered":"CHIC: Graffiti Art Interprets Message of Healing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>JACKSONVILLE, TN (July 19, 2006) &#8211; As speakers captured the attention of  students inside the Thompson-Boling Arena at CHIC 2006 Tuesday evening,  artist Chris Allen was quietly at work developing a message of his own. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/old.covchurch.org\/uploads\/Pn\/T5\/PnT5SL3iFkmkIXyniJf_lA\/Graffiti-top.jpg\" alt=\"Grafffiti banner\" hspace=\"4\" vspace=\"4\" align=\"right\" \/>When  he was done Tuesday evening, he had completed a graffiti piece of  artwork using the word \u201chealer,\u201d which coincided with and complemented  Tuesday evening\u2019s focus on Jesus: No Ordinary Healer. (See separate  story on the evening speakers and the healing focus elsewhere in this  online news report).<\/p>\n<p>Allen said he had a general idea of what he wanted to with the artwork,  but allowed the finished design to evolve over the two nights. Each of  those evenings, teenagers and counselors would walk up to him and  discuss his work. Others would stop to take pictures. And during Tuesday  evening\u2019s worship service, periodically the large screens in the arena  would show Allen at work on his scaffolding.<\/p>\n<p>Allen, 28, began doing \u201curban abstract art\u201d when he was 15 years old.  Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he travels the country performing his  work, sometimes giving visual representation to a speaker\u2019s message and  words.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/old.covchurch.org\/uploads\/Nz\/Yn\/NzYnISk0heerxRvLO82uIA\/Graffiti-bottom.jpg\" alt=\"Chris Allen at work\" hspace=\"4\" vspace=\"4\" align=\"left\" \/>He  has done pieces for Sanctuary Covenant Church in Minneapolis. One of  the week\u2019s speakers, Efrem Smith, is that congregation\u2019s pastor.<\/p>\n<p>Allen, who operates Inkproof Design Company, works on canvases, murals,  business logo designs, tattoo designs, and CD cover work.
