CONCORD, CA (August 3, 2006) – It was during his terminal fight with cancer that Lee Harvell accepted Christ as his Savior.

\nAt the same time, though not a member, he also helped Crossroads Covenant Church organize its first antique car show, which attracted more than 300 people last year, providing the congregation a novel opportunity to build bridges with the community.<\/p>\n

Harvell died earlier this summer and the church renamed the event \u201cThe Lee Harvell Classic\u201d in his honor. \u201cLee was an amazingly popular fellow,\u201d says transitional pastor Aaron Gonzenbach. Because of Harvell\u2019s connections, people from Alaska, Colorado and Oregon have committed to bringing their cars and motorcycles to this year\u2019s show.<\/p>\n

The free show is scheduled for August 19 and as many as 900 people are expected \u2013 three times the number as last year, says Gonzenbach. People and businesses are contributing money to fund the barbecue as well as tee shirts commemorating the show. Arlen Ness, considered to be one of the premier motorcycle customizers in the United States, will show a 1951 Vincent Black Shadow, worth approximately $50,000, as well as his version of a 1957 Chevy motorcycle. Also displayed will be an original of the legendary 1965 AC Cobra 427 roadster with an aluminum body valued at $500,000.<\/p>\n

Gonzenbach says he has the fun task of figuring out how to fit the more than 100 motorcycles, hot rods and classic cars in the church parking lot. \u201cWe may have more cars than our lot can handle.\u201d<\/p>\n
