{"id":7153,"date":"2006-09-14T22:31:11","date_gmt":"2006-09-15T03:31:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/newswire\/?p=7153"},"modified":"2011-07-06T08:34:49","modified_gmt":"2011-07-06T13:34:49","slug":"5150","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/newswire\/2006\/09\/14\/5150\/","title":{"rendered":"North Park Soccer Team Cracks Top 25"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>CHICAGO, IL (September 14, 2006) &#8211; North Park University\u2019s men\u2019s soccer team cracked the Top 25 national rankings for the first time in the school\u2019s history.<!--more--><\/div>\n<div>The Vikings tied Ithaca College, of Ithaca, New York, (2-0-1) for the No. 24 spot in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll.<\/div>\n<div>\u201cIt\u2019s a great honor,\u201d says assistant coach Jacob Ramos.<\/div>\n<div>The Vikings also moved into a tie for the third spot with Dominican in the Central region rankings. The team had been ranked fourth in the pre-season poll.<\/div>\n<div>The recognition follows a weekend in which the team improved its record to 4-0-0 with victories over teams considered among the best in the country. Last week, North Park shut out Hope College 1-0, and then defeated Calvin College 2-1. Calvin was ranked No. 25 at the time.<\/div>\n<div>Ramos says team unity has been a major key to the Viking\u2019s success so far. \u201cThey\u2019re working well together. They\u2019re like a family, and they understand what we\u2019re trying to teach them,\u201d he says.<\/div>\n<div>The team will have to continue working together, if the Vikings are to sustain their climb in the ranking, Ramos says. We\u2019re behind some quality teams.
