SACRAMENTO, CA (November 21, 2006) \u2013 Greg Carr wanted to entertain and protect the young adults of First Covenant Church who spent Saturday night on the streets of this city to learn more about homelessness.

\nCarr, who is homeless, played his guitar for the roughly 20 people from the church. Then, he said he wanted to sleep with them in front of a warehouse to make sure they remained safe.<\/p>\n

Members of the church said they wanted to learn more about the causes of homelessness. What they say they discovered is that the stereotypes often are wrong.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have so many stereotypes,\u201d Josiah Watters, the church\u2019s outreach minister, told the Sacramento Bee<\/em>, which published a story Monday about the group. \u201cWe think these people are alcoholic bums.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou listen to people – you hear stories,\u201d says 19-year-old Nicole Ferguson. \u201cYou realize that you have a lot in common.\u201d<\/p>\n

Among those the group was surprised to find on the street was a former lawyer whose life fell apart after his wife died. \u201cIt\u2019s hard out there,\u201d said church member Nathanial Anisodon, 22.<\/p>\n
