CHICAGO, IL (June 17, 2009) \u2013 The Axelson Center for Nonprofit Management has arranged a special registration rate of $99 for members of the Evangelical Covenant Church to attend the Willow Creek Association\u2019s Leadership Summit on August 6-7.

\nThe rate is discounted more than $180. Covenanters should register online with the priority code AXELSON. The deadline is June 30.<\/p>\n

Leadership Summit 2009 will be held at Willow Creek Community Church in Barrington, Illinois. Tens of thousands of leaders also will participate in 140 satellite locations across North America.<\/p>\n

Covenant pastors Harvey Carey and David Gibbons will be among the main presenters. Other speakers include former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, journalist David Gergen, Tim Keller, and Wes Stafford.<\/p>\n

\nTwins Draft North Park University Sophomore Pitcher<\/strong><\/p>\n

CHICAGO, IL – The Minnesota Twins selected North Park University sophomore pitcher Mike Giovenco in the 26th round of the 2009 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The 6-foot-6, 235-pound right hander created a lot of buzz in the Midwest baseball scouting community this past spring. Routinely throwing in front of multiple professional scouts, he drew interest from every team in Major League Baseball.<\/p>\n

Giovenco set the single-season school record for strikeouts with 87 on his way to earning First Team selection for both the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) and the ABCA\/Rawlings All-Central Region.<\/p>\n

Giovenco led the CCIW in opponents’ batting average (.193) as well as strikeouts and innings pitched (72.1). His 93 mph fastball and wicked slider were a major reason for his success.<\/p>\n

Giovenco also excelled in the classroom. The business and economics major has earned North Park\u2019s Dean\u2019s List distinction as well as being named to the Academic All-CCIW team.

\nFunding Decline Forces Cut in Presidential Prayer Team<\/strong><\/p>\n

TUSCON, AZ – A sharp decline in donations has led the Presidential Prayer Team (PPT) ministry to lay off Meagan Gillan as its executive editor.<\/p>\n
