{"id":6690,"date":"2006-11-02T18:06:45","date_gmt":"2006-11-02T23:06:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/newswire\/?p=6690"},"modified":"2011-07-06T08:35:45","modified_gmt":"2011-07-06T13:35:45","slug":"biblical-gender-equality-commission-seeks-broader-vision","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/newswire\/2006\/11\/02\/biblical-gender-equality-commission-seeks-broader-vision\/","title":{"rendered":"Biblical Gender Equality Commission Seeks Broader Vision"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>CHICAGO, IL (November 2, 2006) \u2013 Broadening an understanding on the part of individuals and local churches concerning the role of women in ministry \u2013 especially in roles as senior pastors \u2013 as well as encouraging and resourcing women involved in ministry were among key discussion points during this week\u2019s meeting of the Commission on Biblical Gender Equality on the campus of North Park University.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n<a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/74\/2011\/06\/Gender.jpg\" rel=\"prettyPhoto[6690]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-6691\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/74\/2011\/06\/Gender.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"239\" height=\"298\" \/><\/a>The meeting, which began Wednesday and concluded today, also provided an opportunity to bid farewell to retiring commission member Nancy Gordon, who has been instrumental over the years in encouraging women in ministerial roles as well as increasing awareness of the need to present a clear biblical basis for the work of women in all kinds of ministry roles.<\/p>\n<p>A 1992 seminary graduate, Gordon helped form the Association of Covenant Clergy Women of the Evangelical Covenant Church and was instrumental in initiating the Consultation on Women in Ministry. Johnson of Salem, Oregon; and Mann of Walsenburg, Colorado.
