Dawson currently serves as director of technical services, working with local Evangelical Covenant churches on real estate acquisition and sale matters as part of the Department of Church Growth and Evangelism.<\/p>\nCHICAGO, IL (December 12, 2006) \u2013 Stephen R. Dawson will become the new president of National Covenant Properties (NCP) when current President David W. Johnson retires next year, the NCP Board of Directors has announced.<\/p>\n
Dawson currently serves as director of technical services, working with local Evangelical Covenant churches on real estate acquisition and sale matters as part of the Department of Church Growth and Evangelism.<\/p>\n
The change in leadership will coincide with a structural change as well, with the technical services unit relocating from Church Growth and in the future coming under NCP\u2019s umbrella. The technical services function assists congregations in land acquisition, facility planning, and preparing for the loan application process with NCP.<\/p>\n
Dawson also has served as president of Covenant Development Corporation for 16 of his 17 years with the Department of Church Growth and Evangelism. Prior to his association with the Evangelical Covenant Church, Dawson worked in the banking industry in Colorado where he was president of two banks.<\/p>\n

Dawson is married with two sons and is a member of Grace Covenant Church in Chicago. The formal transition in leadership is expected to take place following the June 2007 Annual Meeting in Portland, Oregon.<\/p>\n
Johnson says informal transition work is already under way in preparation for the transfer of leadership, noting that Dawson will be involved in all key NCP decisions with long-term impact going forward.<\/p>\n
\u201cDavid raised the bar in terms of service to the church,\u201d Dawson says in praising Johnson\u2019s leadership of NCP over the past three decades. \u201cDuring his tenure, the corporation has grown from $8 million in assets to $261.5 million, providing loans to the majority of Covenant congregations.<\/p>\n
