MOUNT VERNON, WA (June 3, 2009) \u2013 The Brass Menagerie will celebrate their 20th anniversary with a free concert at 4 p.m. on May 31 at Bethany Covenant Church<\/a>.

\nOriginally known as the Bethany Brass Quintet, the group has become popular throughout the area. The group formed after they played together in a Christmas orchestra at Bethany in 1988.<\/p>\n

The concert will include the first three movements of a piece called \u201cBrass Menagerie.\u201d The quintet also will play selections that range from Bach to Bernstein, including many all-time favorites such as \u201cCloser Walk\u201d and \u201cStars and Stripes,\u201d with the famous piccolo solo done by Arlington High School band director Grabowski on a tuba.<\/p>\n

Pastor Randall Wilken will perform several selections with the quintet. Former member Lanny Jacobs, who used to play with Stan Kenton, will perform an adlib solo in \u201cThe Dead Man Blues.\u201d<\/p>\n

Economic Crisis Focus of Sixth Asia Consultation<\/strong><\/p>\n

TAIPEI, TAIWAN – More than 100 delegates attended the sixth Asia Covenant Church Consultation, which focused on the theme, \u201cThe Church\u2019s Response to the Worldwide Economic Crisis.\u201d<\/p>\n

David Husby, director of Covenant World Relief who previously served as an Asia regional coordinator for the Department of World Mission, said three major issues were addressed: Working with the poor and marginalized, evangelism in the workplace, and doing mission during a time of economic recession.<\/p>\n

The event was held in Taipei April 29-May 1. Attendees came from Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, India, the Philippines, China, New Zealand, and Korea.<\/p>\n
