ROGERS, AR (January 16, 2009) \u2013 The Midsouth Conference<\/a> of the Evangelical Covenant Church has moved its offices from Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Rogers, Arkansas.

\nThe move enables the conference to better focus on continuing to expand its work in that state and Louisiana, as well as others, says Superintendent Garth Bolinder. The conference also encompasses Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico.<\/p>\n

The new address is 302 South 20th St., Suite A, Rogers, AR, 72758. The telephone and fax number is 479-631-1212.<\/p>\n

NewSong Starts Online Radio Broadcast<\/strong><\/p>\n

LOS ANGELES, CA – NewSong LA Covenant Church<\/a> will launch its first online radio program<\/a> on Tuesday. The broadcast will run from 9 to 10 p.m.<\/p>\n

Listeners can call in to speak with the guests. The show\u2019s first guests will be Donna Perkins and Bob Rake. Perkins coordinates the national teen discipleship program of Here\u2019s Life Inner City<\/a>. Rake is the founder of Mission of H.O.P.E in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

Sherea Riley, director of communications as well as children\u2019s ministries at NewSong LA, hosts the show.<\/p>\n

Bloomington (MN) Church Begins Winter Concert Series<\/strong><\/p>\n

BLOOMINGTON, MN – Bloomington Covenant Church<\/a> will kick off its 2009 Winter Concert Series later this month.<\/p>\n

Pianist Huntley Brown<\/a> will perform January 25.\u00a0 Brown has performed around the globe and will perform this year in China and Siberia.<\/p>\n

The Sound of Strings Ensemble will present its \u201cmusical chairs\u201d concert on February 15. The musicians exchange chairs between violin, viola, cello, piano, and classical guitar. Their program includes sacred, gospel, and classical music.<\/p>\n

The southern gospel Higher Power Quartet<\/a> will perform March 8. The quartet sings a variety of gospel styles as well as contemporary music. The group averages 135 concerts a year.<\/p>\n

All concerts will begin at 6 p.m. A free-will offering will be taken.

\nNew Administrators Join ACC Team<\/strong><\/p>\n

SOLDOTNA, AK – John and Kristen Lommel have joined Alaska Christian College to jointly serve in the role as academic vice president. They are beginning their work in a location that has been especially cold. Temperatures were 30 below zero for two weeks, says President Keith Hamilton.<\/p>\n

North Park Students, Staff to Join Inauguration Crowd<\/strong><\/p>\n

CHICAGO, IL – More than 70 North Park University students, faculty, and staff members will be among the forecasted five million onlookers expected in Washington D.C. for the inauguration Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The university sponsored trip was offered to students on a first-come, first-served basis and was funded by several campus departments. Donations also were received from the Evangelical Covenant Church\u2019s Department of Compassion, Mercy and Justice, as well as the denomination\u2019s African American Ministers Association.<\/p>\n

Six Africana Studies students, along with Dean of Diversity and Intercultural Programs Dr. Terry Lindsay, will spend nearly a week in the nation\u2019s capital. Two other groups of students – one representing University Ministries and the other associated with the student newspaper, the North Park Press<\/em> – will travel separately to the event.<\/p>\n

Members of the North Park Press<\/em> will document their experience through a blog<\/a> that will include articles, photographs, and video coverage.<\/p>\n

Portland Pastor\u2019s Family Recovering from Flood<\/strong><\/p>\n

PORTLAND, OR – Paul Burdick, pastor of Sunset Covenant Church, joked that his congregation probably will have a \u201clumberjacking party\u201d this weekend.<\/p>\n

The circumstances surrounding the event are not as humorous. Heavy rains at the beginning of the year flooded the family out of their basement, but also left tree branches and other debris in their yard.<\/p>\n

Burdick\u2019s daughter woke up New Year\u2019s Day to find 14 inches of water in her bedroom, which was in the basement. Burdick was surprised the basement didn\u2019t flood more because the water level was so much higher outside.<\/p>\n

Church members already have helped remove portions of sheet rock and helped with cleaning. Although the house is not in a flood plain, this was the second time the house has flooded in five years.<\/p>\n
