{"id":614,"date":"2009-06-02T16:11:29","date_gmt":"2009-06-02T16:11:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/newswire\/?p=614"},"modified":"2010-12-22T12:53:43","modified_gmt":"2010-12-22T17:53:43","slug":"7097","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/newswire\/2009\/06\/02\/7097\/","title":{"rendered":"105 New Thai Believers Baptized in Single Service"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SOUTHERN THAILAND (June 2, 2009) \u2013 A total of 105 new believers who are affected by HIV\/AIDS were recently baptized in a single service by staff members of the Sustainable Development Research Foundation (SDRF), which is directed by Evangelical Covenant Church missionary Jim Gustafson.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.covchurch.org\/uploads\/2l\/m-\/2lm-1UdM6joWcUmLuHZY6w\/Bap-1.jpg\" alt=\"One\" hspace=\"4\" vspace=\"4\" align=\"right\" \/>\u201cThis was no ordinary baptism (service), which are usually solemn and quiet,\u201d says Covenant missionary Bob Shim. \u201cChildren frolicked in the ocean, people stood on the beach laughing and talking, but in the water where Jim (center photo) and Khun Nujon (bottom photo) were baptizing, it was a sacred place.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat stood out most was the joy and hope on their faces,\u201d Shim recalls. \u201cSome of the newly baptized even broke into dance after coming out of the water.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHere is a group of people who have lost jobs, been marginalized by their society, and shunned by their families &#8211; all because of their illness,\u201d he notes. \u201cHowever, they felt completely accepted in this new community.
