CHICAGO, IL (January 16, 2009 \u2013 The Retirement Research Foundation is receiving applications from churches in the Chicago area for its Accessible Faith Grant Program<\/a> for 2009.
\n
\nThe grants are available to congregations in the Illinois counties of Cook, Lake, and Du Page who want to make their facilities more accessible to senior adults and people with disabilities.<\/p>\n

Grants may be used for design and construction of accessibility improvements such as elevators, platform lifts, permanent ramps, or restroom renovations. Churches also may use the money to purchase and install program-related equipment such as assistive listening systems.<\/p>\n

Grants may be awarded for up to 50 percent of a project\u2019s total cost for a maximum of $30,000.<\/p>\n

The first application deadline is April 17, and the second is June 26. The foundation will notify recipients about five months after each deadline, and the funds will be available a month later.<\/p>\n
