PLUGERVILLE, TX (May 22, 2009) \u2013 Jack and Sandra Cochrun know what it is to lose almost everything. They know what it is to need assistance from a food pantry.<\/p>\n

\"\"This morning, ABC\u2019s Good Morning America<\/em> featured the couple as part of its AmeriCAN series, which focuses on \u201cordinary people committing extraordinary acts of kindness and bravery.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sandra describes the crisis she and Jack experienced eight years ago when she lost her job, and her husband\u2019s business was struggling. She told reporter Chris Cuomo, \u201cWe didn’t have a nest egg; we spent our nest egg. Looking back, I think that was God’s plan for us.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Cochruns, who are members of St. Barnabas the Encourager Evangelical Covenant Church<\/a> in Round Rock, Texas, started their own pantry. The Storehouse of Austin<\/a> now serves 35,000 people.<\/p>\n

Although Jack struggles with emphysema, the couple still work full-time at the pantry. \u201cWhat we\u2019re doing is not a nice thing to do, it\u2019s the right thing to do,\u201d said Jack.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought by now I\u2019d have a $100,000-a-year job, but this is better,\u201d Sandra added. \u201cThis is really better. It\u2019s not about counting the beans. It\u2019s about counting the people.\u201d<\/p>\n
