DESOTO, TX (May 6, 2009) \u2013 At a time when many other conferences of the Evangelical Covenant Church are reducing their budgets for 2010, delegates to the Midsouth Conference<\/a> Annual Meeting approved a \u201cfaith challenge\u201d budget.

\nCrossRoads Covenant Church<\/a> hosted the meeting in DeSoto on April 17-18. CrossRoads Covenant Church is a three-year old church plant that Superintendent Garth Bolinder says \u201cis becoming a leadership church in the south Dallas area, as well as in the Midsouth Conference.\u201d<\/p>\n

Delegates approved a 2010 budget of $578,225, down from the current budget of $601,704. The budget will help the conference continue a \u201cbold church planting initiative,\u201d Bolinder said.<\/p>\n

Attendance at conference churches grew approximately 17 percent to 33,011 last year, Bolinder reported. Two church plants are being developed for 2009 and several possibilities for 2010 are being discussed, Bolinder reported.<\/p>\n

The budget also reflects the Annual Meeting\u2019s theme of \u201cIn It Together,\u201d borrowed from denomination President Gary Walter who addressed delegates on Saturday morning and preached at CrossRoads on Sunday. He also spoke to the Ministerium on Friday and participated in the worship service that evening.<\/p>\n

Richard Allen Farmer, a well-known musician and preacher, performed and spoke during the Friday evening worship service.<\/p>\n

An offering was taken for Ross and Ruth McElwee, who minister at White Mountain Covenant Church in White Mountain, Alaska. The conference has partnered with the congregation.<\/p>\n

In other business, delegates unanimously elected Bolinder to another four-year term.<\/p>\n
