LIVINGSTON, NJ (July 19, 2007) \u2013 A special prayer service will be conducted this evening for Trinity Covenant Church pastor John Marks, 62, who died on Tuesday. A memorial service also has been scheduled for later next week.

\nA Service of Prayer and Comfort will take place at 7 o\u2019clock this evening at the church, led by Associate Pastor Sue Gillespie. She says people are welcome to join the congregation as it gathers for a time of grieving and sharing as a \"Marks\"community of faith. The church is located at 343 East Cedar Street in Livingston. A memorial service will be conducted Thursday, July 26, beginning at 2 p.m. at the church. No visitation will be observed, according to Gillespie. Among special guests who will attend is Howard Burgoyne, superintendent of the East Coast Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church.<\/p>\n

Marks was born September 15, 1944. He married his wife, Theresa, on March 3, 1970. He has served as senior pastor of Trinity Covenant since 1999, also serving as treasurer of the Covenant Ministerium. Theresa serves on the Board of Women Ministries.<\/p>\n

Marks earned his Master of Divinity degree from North Park Theological Seminary in 1999. He also had a Master of Arts degree from the University of Cincinnati, and a bachelor\u2019s degree from the State University of New York in Fredonia.<\/p>\n

Prior to entering ministry, Marks had worked as a public relations director and an instructor at the University of Cincinnati as well as public school systems in New York.<\/p>\n

In addition to Theresa, he is survived by his son, Peter (wife Kristy), his daughter, Jennifer (husband Patrick), his mother, and a brother and sister.<\/p>\n
