PORTLAND, OR (June 22, 2007) \u2013 Delegates to the 122nd Annual Meeting of the Evangelical Covenant Church today approved continuation of the Commission on Covenant History for an additional five years. Following is the rationale considered by delegates.

\nRationale<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Commission on Covenant History is a standing commission established by the Annual Meeting in 1935 for the purpose of providing guidance and assistance to programs and policies related to the preservation, maintenance and interpretation of the historical records of the Evangelical Covenant Church.<\/p>\n

Areas of Focus<\/strong><\/p>\n

Key areas of focus for the next five years include:
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Historical perspective & analysis
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Acquisition of material (special emphasis on oral histories and ethnic voices)
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Records retention and collection management
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Public interaction and accessibility to historical records<\/p>\n

Composition<\/strong>
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0The commission will have no fewer than four members, reflecting ethnic and gender representation.
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Advisors include the Covenant archivist\/librarian, two Covenant historians representing North Park University and North Park Theological Seminary, and the managing editor of Covenant Publications.
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Ex officio members include the president of the ECC and the executive minister of the Department of Communication.<\/p>\n
