MASON CITY, IA (June 15, 2007) \u2013 First Covenant Church<\/a> received 12 people into membership on Sunday as the congregation celebrated its 60th anniversary. The new members represented \u201ca tangible sign of God’s continued faithfulness to us, and in us, and through us,\u201d says pastor Tammy Swanson-Draheim.

\nThe future also was highlighted following the service when the church dedicated new playground equipment as part of the congregation\u2019s commitment to welcome young families. \u201cIt was great to see the children swarming all over the place,\u201d Swanson-Draheim says.<\/p>\n

The celebration weekend began Saturday night by honoring the past. Former interim pastor Jerry Johnson spoke at a banquet on “The rock from which you were hewn.”<\/p>\n

The focus switched to the future on Sunday morning, when former pastor Dan Pietrzyk preached from Philippians 3:4b-14<\/a> and exhorted the congregation to consider the wonderful ministry that still remains to be done. Pietrzyk directs the Covenant\u2019s Sustaining Pastoral Excellence<\/a> program. Midwest Conference Superintendent Ken Carlson brought a special greeting.<\/p>\n
