Families that stay at the new house in Oak Lawn are dealing with the health crisis of a child. West, who attends Trinity Covenant Church, wanted to do what she could to help.<\/p>\nOAK LAWN, IL (April 9, 2009) \u2013 A lot of kids would love to celebrate their birthday by having Ronald McDonald come to their house. Six-year-old Mary Faith West instead arranged for gifts to be delivered to the Ronald McDonald House to benefit the children who stay there.

\nFamilies that stay at the new house in Oak Lawn are dealing with the health crisis of a child. West, who attends Trinity Covenant Church, wanted to do what she could to help.<\/p>\n
Last Saturday, she celebrated her birthday by having guests bring items that could be donated to the house. At the party, the children also made gift bags for the families who stay at the \u201chome-away-from-home.\u201d<\/p>\n
Guests collected pop can pull tops that the house uses to raise funds through recycling. Unlike the rest of the can, the tab is pure aluminum and therefore generates the most money.<\/p>\n
Trinity has partnered with the 16-bedroom-house in Oak Lawn to provide a home-cooked meal once a month. Roughly 20 volunteers from the church participate. Mary and her mother, Michelle, delivered the items to the house this week (accompanying photo) while volunteers prepared the monthly meal.<\/p>\n
The house is just blocks away from the church and across the street from Advocate Hope Children’s Hospital. The house opened its doors on December 15, 2008. So far, more than 75 families have spent more than 1,000 occupied-room nights, and volunteers have contributed more than 2,500 hours.<\/p>\n
