NEW BRIGHTON, MN (March 26, 2009) \u2013 Covenanter Bob Stromberg<\/a> offers a ready answer when people ask how they can make a living ministering through comedy as he has done over the past 33 years.

\nHe cautions the aspirants with typical Stromberg humor, \u201cI know you would love to do what I do. You probably wouldn\u2019t love to do what I had to do in order to do what I\u2019m doing.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an interview with Jim Hawkinson, executive director emeritus of the Department of Communication\u2014and the comedian\u2019s father-in-law\u2014Stromberg reflects on his career.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome of it is very fun and even what people would think of as being glamorous,\u201d he says. \u201cMost of it is work, which I\u2019m thankful for and I love doing. I love doing what I\u2019m made to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the interview, Stromberg shares what it was like telling his parents that he wanted to launch out on the \u201ccrazy idea\u201d of a comedy career in order to minister to people of all ages. The lighthearted interview also touches on serious subjects such as finding bookings during a tight economy and life on the road.<\/p>\n

The comedian has had to reinvent himself throughout his career. Having earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from North Park University<\/a> in Chicago, he studied for two years with legendary teacher Tony Montanaro at Celebration Mime Theatre in Maine.<\/p>\n

While at the mime school, he met Michael Cooper, and the pair performed more than 5,000 shows as \u201cStromberg and Cooper.\u201d Stromberg began a solo career in 1989, performing in venues from church basements to corporate settings and stadium events, including CHIC. The Chicago Sun-Times<\/em> described Stromberg as \u201ca mesmerizing physical comedian.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stromberg also has appeared as part of the trio, Triple Espresso<\/a>, which the Los Angeles Times<\/em> called \u201cA triple jolt of inspired craziness.\u201d Examples of his work can be found readily on YouTube.<\/p>\n
