PRINCETON, IL (April 27, 2007) \u2013 Old and young alike are celebrating today as one of the most beloved youth workers at the Evangelical Covenant Church of Princeton turns 89 years \u201cyoung.\u201d

\n\"BirthdayMary Lou Shaffer (accompanying photo) is surrounded by her admiring kids in the youth group as they join in the festivities. To see another photo of her aboard her motor scooter, see Mary Lou<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Born April 27, 1918, Shaffer has been working with the junior high group for the past two years \u2013 she attended her first Youth Workers Connection event just two years ago!<\/p>\n

\u201cThe kids love her,\u201d says youth pastor Donovan DeGaetano. \u201cThey love to hear about what it was like when she was growing up, like the time a group of gypsies offered her uncle a team of horses for her.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shaffer considers time with the young people a priority in her life. She shares breakfast every Friday morning at McDonald\u2019s with a group of senior high students before school begins, DeGaetano notes.<\/p>\n
