CHICAGO, IL (March 12, 2009) \u2013 CHIC 2009 organizers are looking for more than 1,000 individuals who will commit to pray for the triennial youth gathering. The event will take place July 12-17 on the campus of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

\nThere are two key opportunities for people to participate in a coordinated prayer effort, says Katie Isaza, ministry coordinator in the Department of Christian Formation of the Evangelical Covenant Church.<\/p>\n

\"CHIC\"The first is the CHIC off-site prayer team. \u201cWe\u2019re looking for 1,000 people who who will commit to pray off site, wherever they\u2019re at, for CHIC prior to and during the event,\u201d says Isaza. Members of the team will receive email updates of ongoing prayer needs.<\/p>\n

Anyone interested in participating should email Isaza<\/a> or call the office at 773-583-0220.<\/p>\n

Individuals also are needed as full-time members of an on-site prayer team. \u201cOur mission at CHIC is to be available to those who need prayer, to pray for specific needs and requests, and to pray on behalf of all who are present that God will be glorified,\u201d says Isaza.<\/p>\n

Past participants say it is an unforgettable experience. \u201cTo see God moving in the hearts of these kids was incredible,\u201d says Patty Canterbury, a member of Journey Covenant Church in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. \u201cI was able to pray with kids to make first-time commitments to Christ!\u201d<\/p>\n

Canterbury is looking forward to returning. \u201cI have chosen to be a part of this year’s prayer team because I can’t imagine being anywhere else. I need and want to be a witness to what God will do there again this year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Members of the prayer team will be present at events including worship, base camps, seminars, and just generally around the campus. The team will meet twice a day for group prayer and to receive assignments. Participants will travel to CHIC with their respective church or on their own. Isaza says CHIC leaders will do their best to accommodate people who want to serve on the prayer team part-time. Participants would work most of their shifts in a role outside the prayer team, but would have several shifts throughout the week serving with the team.<\/p>\n

People looking to serve on the team part-time should indicate this when completing the staff skills and interest form that will be sent once their adult registration is processed.<\/p>\n
