BELL GARDENS, CA (December 3, 2008) \u2013 Six of the 12 contributors to a new book that focuses primarily on Latin American immigration to the United States are academics connected with the Evangelical Covenant Church\u2019s Hispanic Center for Theological Studies (CHET).

\nJorge Maldonado, the school\u2019s former president and currently a Covenant missionary in Spain, is the co-editor of the volume, Living and Serving in Exile: Theological Lectures of the Latin-American Experience in the United States<\/em> (Vivir y servir en el exilio: Lecturas teol\u00f3gicas de la experiencia latina en los Estados Unidos<\/em>).<\/p>\n

The other editor is Juan Francisco Martinez, a congregant of Iglesia Del Pacto Evangelico of Los Angeles, California, which is a Covenant church. Martinez also is a professor at CHET and assistant dean for the Hispanic Church Studies Department and associate professor of Hispanic Studies and Pastoral Leadership at Fuller Theological Seminary.<\/p>\n

Many of the papers shared in the book have been presented over the past several years at international conferences. \u201cAll of the participants in the writing of this book are either working toward a doctorate or already have one, and most are working for seminaries such as Fuller, Claremont, and Azusa as well as for institutions such as ours,\u201d says CHET President Ed Delgado.<\/p>\n

In addition to Maldonado and Martinez, other contributors connected with CHET include Catherine M. Barsotti, special assistant to the CHET president; Nicholas Block, professor; Elizabeth Conde-Frazier, board member; and Juan A. Maldonado, professor.<\/p>\n
