CHICAGO, IL (November 10, 2008) \u2013 Following is a job description for the position of executive minister of the Department of Church Growth and Evangelism of the Evangelical Covenant Church.<\/em>

\nOverview<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Department of Church Growth and Evangelism (CGE) of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC) is charged with seeing the United States and Canada as a mission field. As such, it works closely with all 11 geographic regions of the ECC to bring the hope of Christ to an increasing number of people in an increasing number of settings. The ECC has grown by 56 percent in the past decade, with 22 percent of its churches now congregations of color or multiethnic.<\/p>\n

The ECC bylaws identify CGE\u2019s role in establishing new congregations, promoting the growth and health of all ECC congregations, and bringing persons to Christian faith. As such, the department\u2019s principal working groups are Church Planting (working with regional conferences in starting approximately 20 new churches throughout the ECC per year), Congregational Vitality (working with existing churches to establish momentum into the future), and Evangelism (resources and consulting). Additionally, CGE coordinates three commissions (Urban, Ethnic, Town & Country) and oversees the development of areas outside of regional conference boundaries (currently Alaska).<\/p>\n

The executive minister directs the department. This includes overall strategic direction and identification of initiatives; staff selection and development; policy and procedure establishment and review; budgetary development, fund management, and fund-raising; problem-solving; and collaborating efforts with all regional conferences.<\/p>\n

The executive minister participates in senior level matters for the whole of the denomination through participation on the Council of Administrators, Council of Superintendents, ECC Executive Board, and additional committee, commission, and ad hoc assignments.<\/p>\n

The executive minister additionally provides direct ministry through consultation, material development, seminar instruction, preaching, writing, and adjunct teaching at North Park Theological Seminary.<\/p>\n

Qualifications <\/strong><\/p>\n

Relocation to Chicago is required, as is extensive travel associated with the position. The successful candidate will be intrinsically motivated and comfortable in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment and possess a demonstrable record in the following:
\n1.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0A commitment to and expertise in the core assignment areas of the department
\n2.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Planning and directional skills related to a growing and complex organization
\n3.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Successful recruitment and development of teams
\n4.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0General administration, including budget and fund management
\n5.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Public speaking and writing
\n6.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Collegiality
\n7.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Ability to relate to a wide range of backgrounds and socio-economic settings<\/p>\n

While the minimum requirement for consideration is membership in an ECC congregation, ECC ordination and extensive engagement with the ECC and the mission of the department is preferred.<\/p>\n
