He died Friday at the age of 70 following a long bout with colorectal cancer.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.covchurch.org\/uploads\/RU\/CW\/RUCWCa1ujIpUt7whRhmr9A\/0828-scholer.jpg\" alt=\"\" hspace=\"4\" vspace=\"4\" align=\"right\" \/>Scholer taught at the seminary from 1988-1994 and helped author the influential Evangelical Covenant Church paper, &#8220;A Biblical and Theological Basis for Women in Ministry.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A 2007 <a href=\"http:\/\/articles.latimes.com\/2007\/jun\/05\/local\/me-scholer5\" target=\"_blank\">article<\/a> in the<em> Los Angeles Times<\/em> featured Scholer for the way he continued to inspire students and others despite his illness. The paper published another <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/news\/printedition\/california\/la-me-scholer28-2008aug28,0,1094752.story\" target=\"_blank\">article<\/a> today.<\/p>\n<p>Scholer taught at Fuller Theological Seminary the past 14 years. He delivered a sermon entitled &#8220;It Is about God\u2026Not about Us&#8221; at the school\u2019s baccalaureate service in June. Speaking from a seated position, Scholer declared that &#8220;God has chosen to use fragile human instruments for God\u2019s glory.\u201d It can be viewed at a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.new.facebook.com\/pages\/David-M-Scholer\/44809531368?ref=s&amp;refurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.new.facebook.com%2Fs.php%3Fref%3Dsearch%26init%3Dq%26q%3Ddavid%2Bm.%2Bscholer\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook page<\/a> established by his friends.<\/p>\n<p>Scholer was born July 24, 1938, in Rochester, Minnesota.
