FARGO, ND (August 4, 2008) \u2013 A memorial service will be conducted August 8 for Margaret (Kalson) Lindquist, 86, a retired Evangelical Covenant Church missionary to Congo, who died Thursday.
\n
\nThe service will begin at 1 p.m. at First Covenant Church, 810 South Seventh Street in Minneapolis, Minnesota. An earlier graveside committal service will take place at Fort Snelling in Minneapolis.<\/p>\n

Lindquist was born October 19, 1921, in Orland, California, the youngest of five girls born to John and Eleen Kalson. Her father was an evangelist and minister. Margaret married Franklin D. Lindquist in 1944 while he was serving in the U.S. Army during World War II.<\/p>\n

For 20 years they served as Evangelical Covenant Church career missionaries to the Belgian Congo (later Democratic Republic of Congo) where Margaret was involved in women\u2019s and children\u2019s ministries teaching sewing, reading and Bible classes. She is remembered as being a wonderful hostess to the missionaries and to the people of Congo, who bestowed on her the Congolese name Nyasikara, which means \u201cgreatly loved one and \u201c kindness\u201d in the Mbanza language.<\/p>\n

One of her Sunday school students, Luyada Gbuda, in more recent years served as president of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Congo<\/a>. Returning to the United States in 1969, the family lived in Rockford, Illinois, until 1993 when they moved to Edina, Minnesota for 10 years and then to Fargo, North Dakota.<\/p>\n

She enjoyed painting, photography, music, speaking, reading, cooking, writing poetry, and rejoiced in God\u2019s creation in the out-of-doors. In addition to her husband Franklin, she is survived by children Tom (Joan) of Redmond, Washington; Kurt (Linda) of Fargo, North Dakota; Franklin II \u201cLindy\u201d of Chicago, Illinois; and Sheri (Roger) Whitfield of St. Louis, Missouri; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Elinor Bergen.<\/p>\n
