HUDSONVILLE, MI (July 31, 2008) \u2013 Three controversial leaders of the emergent church movement will bring \u201cThe Church Basement Roadshow: A Rollin\u2019 Gospel Revival,\u201d to Fellowship Covenant Church<\/a> at 7 p.m.\u00a0 Sunday.

\nThe roadshow features Tony Jones, Doug Pagitt and Mark Scandrette, who are on a 32-city tour crisscrossing the country in a bio-diesel RV.<\/p>\n

The trio has attracted praise and criticism for their writings. Jones is the author of The New Christians: Dispatches from the Emergent Frontier<\/em>; Pagitt has written A Christianity Worth Believing<\/em>; and Scandrette has published Soul Graffiti: Making a Life in the Way of Jesus<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis will be unlike any book tour people have seen,\u201d said Jones. \u201cWe\u2019ll be barnstorming the country, shaking the rafters with our ancient-future message of hope.\u201d<\/p>\n

The trio will play six characters in their 90-minute show that includes book readings and musical theater. The show opens with them as 1908 revivalists in the tradition of Billy Sunday \u2013 Preacher A.L. Withee (Scandrette), Big Brother Duke (Pagitt) and Professor A.W. Hawthorne (Jones). They\u2019re even bringing their own \u201chealing balm.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jones told the Omaha World-Herald<\/em>, “It’s a fun take on the history and ideas of the faith, with laughs and songs, but also a definitive message.”<\/p>\n

Attendees will have an opportunity to meet with the authors following the show.<\/p>\n
