CHICAGO, IL (February 24, 2009) \u2013 Swedish Covenant Hospital has been ranked in the top five percent of hospitals nationwide in terms of the lowest mortality and complication rates across 26 procedures and diagnoses, Covenant News Service has learned.

\nThe findings come as part of the seventh annual Hospital Quality and Clinical Excellence Study conducted by Health ![\"Logo\"](\"http:\/\/www.covchurch.org\/uploads\/wu\/RB\/wuRBkBHn7S3ugo-m9fF37w\/SCH-new.jpg\")
Grades, Inc., a leading healthcare ratings organization providing ratings and profiles of hospitals, nursing homes, and physicians. Users of the ratings services include the nation\u2019s largest employers, health plans and hospitals.<\/p>\n
Hospitals that achieve this level of care are designated Distinguished Hospitals for Clinical Excellence by the Health Grades organization.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis really is a big achievement,\u201d says Mark Newton, president and CEO of Swedish Covenant Hospital. More than 5,000 hospitals are assessed as part of the national study, he notes. The study examines the risk-adjusted mortality and complications among the top performing hospitals compared with the nation as a whole. Distinguished hospitals have a 27 percent lower rate of risk-adjusted mortality and an eight percent lower rate of risk-adjusted complications.<\/p>\n
