{"id":190,"date":"2009-02-18T16:04:06","date_gmt":"2009-02-18T16:04:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/newswire\/?p=190"},"modified":"2010-12-22T13:10:02","modified_gmt":"2010-12-22T18:10:02","slug":"6875","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/newswire\/2009\/02\/18\/6875\/","title":{"rendered":"Tizon to Lecture on Missional Preaching"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CHICAGO, IL (February 18, 2009) &#8211; Al Tizon will deliver the Westerdahl Lectures at North Park Theological Seminary on March 5.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.covchurch.org\/uploads\/Om\/pO\/OmpO_GS1DejzW-zFD5Q2hQ\/Al-Tizon.jpg\" border=\"2\" alt=\"\" hspace=\"4\" vspace=\"4\" align=\"right\" \/><!--more-->Tizon is the director of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.esa-online.org\/Display.asp?Page=WordDeedNetwork\" target=\"_blank\">Word &amp; Deed Network<\/a> of the Evangelicals for Social Action\/Sider Center on Ministry and Public Policy.<\/p>\n<p>An Evangelical Covenant Church minister, he also is assistant professor of holistic ministry at Palmer (formerly Eastern) Theological Seminary in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p>He will focus on the theme \u201cThe Missional Imperative: Preaching as if the World Matters.\u201d It will be presented through two lectures: \u201cThe Necessity for Missional Preaching\u201d and \u201cThe Elements of Missional Preaching.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Two books authored by Tizon were released last year. One of them, <em>Linking Arms, Linking Lives<\/em>, exhorts churches to partner across the \u201curban-suburban\u201d divide for community transformation. The other, <em>Transformation after Lausanne<\/em>, documents the transformational movement around the world, specifically in the Philippines. The first lecture begins at 9 a.m. and the second lecture is at 10:45 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>The Carl G. Westerdahl Lectureship in Evangelism began in 1964 when an endowment fund was established by the Westerdahl family in memory of the late Reverend Carl G. Westerdahl, noted Covenant preacher and evangelist.
