PRINCETON, IL (May 19, 2008) \u2013 A service of dedication and celebration will be conducted on Saturday, May 31, to formally open the Memorial Sculpture Garden on the campus of the Covenant Children\u2019s Home and Family Services (CCHFS).<\/p>\n
The service will begin at 2 p.m. in the Nelson Chapel on the campus located at 502 Elm Place in Princeton. The service is open to all interested individuals, with light refreshments to be served following the dedication.<\/p>\n
The garden celebrates CCHFS\u2019s history as a haven of hope and caring to children, youths, adults and families Bronze sculptures by L\u2019Deane Trueblood depict children in various activities. Perennials have been planted and annuals will be added to provide floral color.<\/p>\n
Visitors will find several varieties of trees, including crabapple, maple and elm. Benches and a water fountain have been added, with plans calling for water to be flowing gently through the creek bed and over the waterfall this spring. A pergola entrance will be added this summer. The garden\u2019s design allows space for future expansion.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis garden will provide a permanent, meaningful place for friends to visit, revive memories and be proud of their association with Covenant Children\u2019s Home,\u201d says Ron Gustafson of Rockford, who serves as chairperson of the CCHFS board\u2019s garden project committee.<\/p>\n
In commemoration of CCHFS\u2019s history of caring for children, a bronze plaque will be placed near the site of the original Covenant Children\u2019s Home building.<\/p>\n
