CHICAGO, IL (April 30, 2008) \u2013 Would you like the opportunity to sing in a large festival choir under the baton of a world-renowned director with more than a thousand individuals engaged in inspiring worship?

\nThose planning to attend The FEAST June 21-24 will have that opportunity as well as enjoy a wide range of other worship experiences as they gather along the shores of Green Lake, Wisconsin.<\/p>\n

The FEAST precedes the 123rd Annual Meeting of the Evangelical Covenant Church, which will take place in the same Green Lake Conference Center facilities, beginning with the opening worship service the evening of June 24 and concluding with the traditional ordination service June 26.<\/p>\n

The \u201cOne Voice\u201d festival choir will be under the direction of Walter Whitman, who serves as president and musical director of the much-acclaimed Soul Children of Chicago, a choral group he founded in 1981.<\/p>\n

\u201cMr. Whitman is inviting us to become part of the \u2018One Voice\u2019 FEAST choir,\u201d says Lisa Orris who directs The FEAST planning group. \u201cWhether you can sing gloriously or make a joyful noise, you are invited to rehearsals during free time (1:30-3:00 p.m.) as you prepare to be a part of the corporate worship services,\u201d Orris notes. The FEAST worship experience also will incorporate a worship band under the leadership of Matt Lundgren, who has become well-known throughout the Covenant in organizing and leading worship experiences for major Covenant events.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy creating a tight-knit, diverse worship band, The FEAST will give voice to the breadth of worship styles within the Covenant,\u201d Lundgren explains. \u201cIt is my goal that in addition to being Christ-centered, worship at The FEAST will take major steps towards developing a shared worship language within the denomination that can be described as seamlessly diverse.\u201d<\/p>\n

The worship band will be comprised of talented musicians and gifted leaders from diverse backgrounds with a shared history of leading and worshiping together, Lundgren says. The approach to worship will include \u201cworship elements that are true to different worship styles within the Covenant, yet are still very accessible to others for whom they are a non-native worship language,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n

Another important value of The FEAST experience is the opportunity to interact with other Christians and experience God\u2019s presence through prayer and individual devotional opportunities, Orris notes.<\/p>\n

These opportunities include ancient and recent prayer traditions representative of a variety of cultures and traditions. Participants may choose to join in Praying the Hours – morning prayers and vespers (or evening prayers), or spend some time of solitude in the House of Prayer. Other prayer activities will include the visual arts, music, drama and prayer walking.<\/p>\n
