CHICAGO, IL (April 28, 2008) \u2013 North Park Theological Seminary student Mary Putera has been awarded the\u00a0 Quentin “Dusty” Larson Memorial Fund Scholarship.

\n\"\"The scholarship is presented by the Evangelical Covenant Church\u2019s Town and Country Commission<\/a> to a student graduating from the seminary and planning to enter town and country ministry. The commission presented the award during its annual banquet April 11 in Chicago. The accompanying photo shows Putera (seated at left) with commission representatives.<\/p>\n

Putera, who has a Master\u2019s in Clinical Mental Health, will divide her time ministering at Mat-Su Covenant Church<\/a> in Wasilla, Alaska, and Covenant Youth of Alaska<\/a> (CYAK). Her work with CYAK will include providing pastoral support and care for people working with native youth in the bush and villages.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe award was just a complete affirmation of what we\u2019re trying to accomplish,\u201d Putera says. \u201cI am so thrilled.\u201d<\/p>\n

The scholarship helps recipients pay off student debt. Putera says the award was especially needed because she has to raise her own missionary support.<\/p>\n

The scholarship was established in 1997 in honor of Larson, who devoted his life to ministry in small towns. The Town and Country Commission serves as a liaison between rural pastors, the seminary and denominational officials and offers educational support opportunities.<\/p>\n

Individuals desiring to contribute to the scholarship fund can send a check made payable to the Evangelical Covenant Church, Attn: John Wenrich, 5101 N. Francisco Ave., Chicago, IL, 60625, noting on the check that the gift is for the Quentin \u201cDusty\u201d Larson Fund.<\/p>\n
