LA QUINTA, CA (March 17, 2008) \u2013 Operating a coffeehouse that is open throughout the week seems like a natural outgrowth of ministry for Cornerstone Covenant Church, says pastor Chris Hushaw.

\nThe church is committed to reaching out to the community in ways that are readily accessible, he explains. \u201cWe are all seeking a place where people know us by name and where we can gather with friends. The Coffee House Caf\u00e9 is today\u2019s answer to our desire for community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hushaw adds, \u201cThat\u2019s where Jesus spent most of his time – hanging out with his friends, pursuing people in everyday life, sharing life together.\u201d<\/p>\n

The coffeehouse is open from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and is staffed by volunteers, says Hushaw. Friday nights offer an open microphone for local artists and game night for families to spend time together. Sunday evenings feature The Infusion, a gathering for young adults. A guitar club meets Monday nights.<\/p>\n

Customers can take advantage of the free WiFi Internet connectivity for laptop users, a new kids\u2019 room for parents and children, and plenty of tables, chairs and sofas. The caf\u00e9 has an outdoor patio, and the church office is located in the back of the building.<\/p>\n

This is not the first non-profit venture for the 18-month-old congregation. Cornerstone owns and operates the Bargains of the Desert Thrift Store. Proceeds fund trips to church camp for valley children whose families can’t afford the expense. The store already has raised $48,000 so far to send 127 children to camp.<\/p>\n
