OMAHA, NE (January 11, 2008) – Putting new settings to traditional favorites always is a dicey proposition, but Dick Lindner says the 12 newly commissioned piano arrangements of Swedish hymns he will perform on Sunday at First Covenant Church won\u2019t alarm anyone.

\n\u201cI don\u2019t think there is anything to offend traditionalists,\u201d says Lindner, laughing. Rather, the arrangements by nationally known composer John Carter will give listeners a new appreciation for the tunes.<\/p>\n
Some of the hymns included in the program are \u201cChildren of the Heavenly Father,\u201d \u201cDay by Day,\u201d and \u201cThanks to God for My Redeemer.\u201d<\/p>\n
The congregation commissioned Carter as it celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2007, says Lindner, who is the church organist. Carter began the work in August and completed the music by Thanksgiving.<\/p>\n
Lindner says he hopes the arrangements will be published so that they can be a resource for the denomination.<\/p>\n
