LANYON, IA (December 21, 2009) \u2013 Fourteen inches of snow that had fallen here didn\u2019t deter The Crossing<\/a>, a renowned Christian Celtic band out of Chicago, from giving a performance to raise money for a community swimming pool one week ago.

\n\"Band\"Marc Murchison, pastor of Lanyon Covenant Church<\/a>, had invited the band, whose members are part of Jesus People USA Covenant Church, to perform at the benefit on Saturday (December 12) as well as during the Sunday morning service with his congregation.<\/p>\n

The band (accompanying photo) first performed acoustic music at a local Festival of Trees event that was a fundraiser for the nearby town of Gowrie, which needs to replace its badly deteriorating swimming pool, Murchison says. The played while people walked through more than 50 decorated trees.<\/p>\n

The band performed a concert during the extended 10 a.m. worship service on Sunday. Children and teens from the congregation added Christmas readings and scripture to the program. The day concluded with a potluck dinner and a party.<\/p>\n

Murchison is a huge fan of the band and says he is grateful that the group made the trip despite the inclement weather. \u201cIt was an awesome event!\u201d<\/p>\n

The Crossing consists of Tony Krogh on guitar, lead vocals, Highland pipes, Scottish small pipes, high- and low-D whistles, bouzouki, and bodhran; Mark Hall on flute, whistles, harp, bones, bodhran, and vocals; Jennifer Ingerson on fiddle and vocals; Hilde Bialach on cello, lead vocals, keys, and bodhran; and Eric Clayton on guitar, bouzouki, bodhran, djembe, and vocals.<\/p>\n
