HARLEYSVILLE, PA (January 30, 2009) \u2013 Christ Covenant Church<\/a> is one of the newest congregations in the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC), but it recently attracted local attention for participating in one of the denomination\u2019s oldest ministries.

\nThe local newspaper reported on 22 women in the church who spent several hours ripping sheets and rolling them for bandages that will be used in northwestern Congo, where the ECC partners in mission work with the Covenant Church of Congo (CEUM).<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to make sure if we say we are Covenant, that we are Covenant.\u201d<\/h5>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve gotten a lot of donated sheets since the newspaper article,\u201d says Sharon Meeker, who coordinated the effort.<\/p>\n

The Philadelphia FOX-TV news affiliate planned to send a film crew to capture the women rolling more bandages, but inclement weather has forced them to reschedule, Meeker says. Storms have dumped heavy snow throughout large portions of the Midwest and Northeast.<\/p>\n

Members of Christ Covenant \u2013 which was adopted into the denomination in 2007 – learned about the bandage project when it was the focus of one of the activities during a Women Ministries retreat in the East Coast Conference.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe saw firsthand how simple this project is,\u201d Meeker says.<\/p>\n

The church raised $800 last year for the Children\u2019s Service Project<\/a> directed at helping the \u201crag picker\u201d children of India.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re trying to get plugged in,\u201d Meeker says. \u201cWe want to make sure if we say we are Covenant, that we are Covenant.\u201d<\/p>\n
