ROCKFORD, IL (November 9, 2009) \u2013 A driver lost control of a vehicle early Sunday morning, smashing a cement bench located at a bus stop and crashing through the yard of Bethesda Covenant Church<\/a> around 2:30 a.m.

\nPieces of the bench were scattered across the churchyard. The vehicle also took out two trees and struck the church building, breaking a window. The vehicle caught fire, but no other damage was reported.<\/p>\n

Police believe the driver may have fled the scene in a second vehicle \u2013 investigators are looking into the possibility that the two vehicles may have been racing at the time of the accident. The search for a suspect continues.<\/p>\n

Teenagers in the church youth group later found a loaded 9 mm pistol in the yard, according to a church member.<\/p>\n
