CHICAGO, IL (November 2, 2009) \u2013 Members of Evangelical Covenant churches have the opportunity to contribute the theme songs for the upcoming Midwinter Pastors Conference<\/a> in January and the 2010 Annual Meeting<\/a> in June.

\nThe opportunity comes as part of a Department of Christian Formation pilot project that seeks to develop and promote worship music written by songwriters who are part of local Covenant congregations. Visit the worship blog<\/a> for additional information.<\/p>\n

The songs should be rooted in the Covenant\u2019s core affirmations, says Andrew Thompson, a member of the selection committee. Copies of songs picked for the theme music will be sent home with conference attendees, says.<\/p>\n

Thompson, who also is pastor of Columbia Grove Covenant Church<\/a> in East Wenatchee, Washington, hopes that the project will be lead to further distribution of other music written by Covenanters.<\/p>\n

The initiative is an outgrowth of the Worship Greenhouse, which Thompson developed as part of his North Park Theological Seminary Presidential Scholarship project.<\/p>\n

\u201cThough it was an honest attempt to provide a web-based forum for gathering and distributing developing worship resources from and to local churches, the technology wasn’t yet in place to allow for convenient usage or broad access,\u201d Thompson says. \u201cNow, technology has caught up to the dream. Now it is much easier to store and share material, and we have the tools we need.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thompson says writers wanting their music considered for theme songs should upload recordings<\/a> of the songs along with a lyric sheet and chord chart. The recording could be from a church worship service.<\/p>\n
