CHICAGO, IL (October 30, 2009) \u2013 NBCs\u2019 television show The Biggest Loser will air footage of the North Park Friendship Center<\/a>, a food pantry ministry of North Park Covenant Church, at 7 p.m. (CST) on Tuesday.

\n\"logo\"The TV show, General Mills, and Feeding America<\/a> – the nation\u2019s leading domestic hunger-relief charity – are partnering to launch the Pound For Pound Challenge, an initiative that encourages Americans to lose weight and feed the hungry. For every pound dieters pledge to lose this new year, a pound of groceries will be delivered to a local food bank.<\/p>\n

The program completed filming at the center on October 16 for a segment on the work of the Greater Chicago Food Depository<\/a> (GCFD). The Friendship Center is one of numerous commodity distributors for the depository and is able to purchase food at greatly reduced prices.<\/p>\n

GCFD Executive Director Kate Maehr, had made a site visit to the Friendship Center and suggested the location for the filming. Joey Ekberg, executive director of the Friendship Center, said Maehr was impressed with how the center serves its clients and how it makes maximum use of available space.<\/p>\n

Between the donations for weight loss pledges and product lids and seals, General Mills hopes to contribute up to $775,000 to Feeding America during the Pound For Pound Challenge.<\/p>\n
