Diversity Conference Attracts Midwest Students<\/strong><\/p>\n

CHICAGO, IL – More than 550 students from 20 colleges and universities located around the Midwest attended the North Park University Student Diversity Leadership Conference on Friday.<\/p>\n

More than 220 of the students came to the North Park University<\/a> campus from other colleges and universities.<\/p>\n

North Park students inspired the idea for the half-day conference, says Terry Lindsay, conference chair and North Park\u2019s dean of diversity and intercultural programs. The dean organized a leadership conference in 2008 that was open to just North Park students, but they advocated holding a second event that would be open to others as well.<\/p>\n

Brenda Salter McNeil, a nationally recognized speaker on diversity issues, opened the event with a message that answered the question, \u201cWhat does it mean to understand human differences?\u201d Students then participated in workshops they chose from topics that included \u201cDiversity in Campus Ministries,\u201d \u201cLeaderships Skills Influenced by Faith and Spiritual Formation,\u201d and \u201cCultivating Intercultural Competency.\u201d<\/p>\n

A full-day event is being planned for 2010.<\/p>\n
