MEXICO CITY, MEXICO (November 3, 2007) \u2013 The Mexico Covenant Church is collecting money and supplies to aid flood-stricken residents in the Gulf Coast State of Tabasco, says Tom Kelly, a missionary with the Department of Covenant World Mission.<\/p>\n

No Covenant missionaries are in the affected region.<\/p>\n

Mexico President Felipe Calderon has called the flooding, \u201cthe worst natural disaster in Mexico\u2019s history.\u201d According to news accounts, more than 1 million people have been affected, and as many as 300,000 are waiting to be rescued from rooftops in Villahermosa, the state capital.<\/p>\n

Covenant World Relief is monitoring the situation as well as the needs in the Caribbean, which was struck by Hurricane Noel, says director Jim Sundholm. Noel struck the Caribbean earlier this week, killing 118 people and displacing thousands due to flooding and mudslides.<\/p>\n
