MINNEAPOLIS, MN (October 15, 2007) \u2013 Covenant World Relief Executive Director Jim Sundholm is resting comfortably at home following what he describes as a minor stroke early last Thursday morning.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am recovering very nicely,\u201d Sundholm said this morning. \u201cMy concern is that when people hear the word stroke, they often think the worst. My doctor calls this a healthy man\u2019s stroke,\u201d he notes, as it has not inflicted long-term damage and provides an opportunity to complete further tests and determine what corrective actions may need to be taken.<\/p>\n

Sundholm was in Brainerd, Minnesota, on Tuesday last week for a portion of the fall ashram of the Northwest Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church. He drove the two hours back to his home following the Tuesday evening worship service there.<\/p>\n
Wednesday, he spent the day cutting down a tree at his home and splitting the logs.<\/p>\n
\u201cAbout five o\u2019clock Thursday morning I woke up with a splitting headache,\u201d Sundholm recalls. He found it difficult to maintain his balance while walking and felt numbness in one area of his face. When the situation did not improve, he went to the hospital where the condition was diagnosed.<\/p>\n
Sundholm remained in the hospital for further testing and observation and was released to go home yesterday (Sunday).<\/p>\n
\u201cThey want to determine what caused the episode,\u201d Sundholm says, noting that the early tests show no obvious problems.<\/p>\n
In the meantime, his travel has been restricted, including a trip to Sudan. \u201cI\u2019m getting my balance back and am doing very well,\u201d Sundholm adds, also expressing his appreciation for all of his friends who have been holding him up in prayer.<\/p>\n
