SPRING VALLEY, CA (November 4, 2003) – When residents of Mount Miguel Covenant Village heard that seven families of Canyon Springs Covenant Church in Scripps Ranch lost their homes in the Cedar Fire, they wanted to do something to help.

Mount Miguel Covenant Village Car WashResident Council President Al Koop organized a car wash to raise funds for these families.

On Thursday, October 30, twenty volunteer residents washed the ash-covered cars of residents and staff. The assembly line included a spray-down station, suds-down station, a rinse and dry station and two ladies who were in charge of the window washing station. The volunteers, averaging about 79 years of age, washed 80 cars in 240 minutes – a clean car about every three minutes.

The volunteers said they felt rewarded and had a sense of accomplishment raising the money, all the while enjoying fun, fellowship and a good time – “acting like teenagers” as one put it.

Through their efforts, the volunteers of Mount Miguel Covenant Village have raised more than $5,350.

Mount Miguel Covenant Village is a retirement community located in Spring Valley, part of Covenant Ministries of Benevolence of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
