YELM, WA (November 8, 2004) – A special open house/retreat event is being planned during December at Cascades Camp and Conference Center as one way to introduce specially invited guests to the facilities.

Camp Cascades Planning GroupThe overnight “Cascades Experience” is planned for December 29, beginning around dinner time and continuing through lunch the following day, targeting urban and city youth workers. The event is an outgrowth of a recent meeting of North Pacific Conference representatives at the camp as they considered ways in which they can make the camp “more accommodating . . . and by being more welcoming to the urban and minority constituencies growing in our conference,” reads a report on the meeting.

Invited guests will enjoy camp tours, worship, an inspirational speaker and good cooking. The event is timed to precede the launch of recruiting efforts for staff for next summer’s camp schedule.

Those participating in the recent planning session included Mark Novak, North Pacific Conference superintendent; Krisann Jarvis Foss, director of Conference Ministries; Tony Easterly, a new urban church planter; Henry Greenidge, pastor of Irvington Covenant Church in Portland, Oregon, and president of the African American Ministers Association; Harvey Drake of Emerald City Bible Fellowship and Emerald City Outreach Ministries; Tom Moline, Cascades executive director; Rob Morhweis, Cascades program director; and Sahaan McKelvey, youth pastor at Irvington Covenant Church.

Those desiring additional information about the camp and its ministries or the efforts to involve more urban and minority youth workers may call Jarvis Foss at 206-390-6495 or Greenidge at 503-287-5226.
