North Park Soccer Team Earns Conference Honors

CHICAGO, IL (November 17, 2005) – The North Park men’s soccer team was honored with Coach of the Year and Player of the Year awards by the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW). In addition, five players were named to first team all conference, and a sixth Viking player was named to the second team.John Born

John Born (see photo) was named Coach of the Year for the second straight season, and junior goalie Austin Person was named Player of the Year as well as being named all conference, first team. Person is the first Viking to ever receive the Player of the Year honor. Also named to the first team were seniors Darryl Payne and James Rose, as well as junior Adam Sinovic, and sophomore P. J. Sinovic. Sinovic was named Player of the Week twice during the season. Sophomore Matt Bond was named to the second team.

The Vikings captured their second straight CCIW title and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the first time in the school’s history. The team finished the season with a conference record of 7-1-1 and 11-7-1 overall.

“I am really proud of our entire team,” says Born. This year’s team was blessed with solid leadership, which made my job a lot easier. The seniors and the team leaders were always pushing the team forward and they should be given a great deal of credit for our success.”
