SPRING VALLEY, CA (December 29, 2000)  – A family burned out of their home in a December 6 fire are the grateful recipients of a $4,300 gift from residents and staff of Mount Miguel Covenant Village.

One member of the family, a five-year-old boy, died of smoke inhalation. The building and all of the family’s possessions were destroyed.
A check was presented to Diane Avery, principal of Kempton Elementary School, and Claire Ledoux, community resource aide, for the family’s assistance fund that was established at the school to provide for family’s needs.
“Our residents and staff immediately took to raising funds to help our neighbors,” said Mount Miguel Campus Administrator Jim Engwall.  “We are pleased to be able to present . . . this help to the family during this Christmas season. Our folks here at Mount Miguel Covenant Village wanted to express our love in Jesus’ name through this gift.”
Mount Miguel Covenant Village is a 500-resident continuing care retirement community in Spring Valley administered by Covenant Retirement Communities on behalf of the Board of Benevolence of The Evangelical Covenant Church.
