SACRAMENTO, CA (December 6, 2000) – A Sacramento area Covenant pastor is the new associate superintendent of the Pacific Southwest Conference, it has been announced by Supt. Evelyn M.R. Johnson.
Wayne Carlson, senior pastor of Valley Hi Covenant Church since 1989, will begin his new duties the latter part of February. He and his wife, Judy, will continue to reside in the Sacramento area where he will maintain an office. He will conclude his pastoral duties at Valley Hi on February 15.
“It is with great joy and gratitude to God that I announce on behalf of the (conference) Executive Board the calling of Wayne Carlson to the position of associate superintendent for the Pacific Southwest Conference,” Johnson said. “We believe Wayne’s experience in the Pacific Southwest Conference, visionary leadership, pastoral gifts, multicultural passion and servant leadership style are significant additions to the emerging PSWC leadership team.”
Before assuming the Valley Hi position, Carlson served nine years as associate pastor at Pasadena Covenant, five years as program director at Mission Springs Conference Center, and five years as a youth pastor with three years at First Covenant, San Jose, and two years at Orange Covenant. Carlson is a graduate of North Park College and Fuller Theological Seminary. He completed orientation studies at North Park Theological Seminary prior to ordination in 1985.
“I encourage you to pray for Wayne and Judy during this time of transition and for the Valley Hi church as they plan for this transition,” Johnson said.
