CHICAGO, IL (December 5, 2000) – The search is on for a new head football coach for North Park University following the November 30 resignation of Mike Liljegren, who coached the North Park Vikings since 1995.
Liljegren’s decision comes at the conclusion of a disappointing season for the Vikings, who finished 3-7 this year.
A 1985 graduate of North Park, Liljegren was defensive coordinator at Illinois College in Jacksonville, Illinois, before coming to Chicago. After starting the season 3-2, the Vikings lost their final five games, the last a 56-52 decision to Carthage College. Although Liljegren finished 9-46 in his head coaching career at NPU, his three wins in 2000 had only been topped once since 1980.
Ingrid Tenglin, the university’s director of Human Resources, said individuals interested in applying for the position should send a cover letter, resume (including three references) and academic transcripts to Jack Surridge, director of athletics, North Park University, 3225 West Foster Avenue, Chicago, IL, 60625. Additional information may be obtained by calling 773-244-5673.
