AZUSA, CA (December 10, 2001) – A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. next Monday, December 17, for Andrea Keegan, a college student from Community Covenant Church in Rocklin, California.
Keegan died Friday, six days after she and two college roommates were involved in an automobile accident in Southern California.
The service will be held at Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church in Fair Oaks, California. A tribute to Keegan will be observed at Azusa Pacific University next month.
A sophomore at Azusa Pacific, Keegan was a passenger in a car driven by Melanie Smith that was struck by another vehicle, according to reports. They and roommate Carrie Moss were en route to an art museum that afternoon, a campus newspaper stated.
Keegan suffered multiple injuries and never regained consciousness, according to a campus pastor. Smith died within hours of the crash, while Moss sustained only minor injuries and was released from the hospital within days.
A youth group advisor described Keegan as a good student in high school, where she wrestled in the boys high school program for a time – one of a select few girls in California to do so. Keegan graduated one term before her class at Rocklin High School and took college classes at a local community college.
A mission-minded teen, Keegan spent one community college semester in Venezuela involved in mission work before transferring to Azusa Pacific this fall. She was a youth group leader during high school and worked with junior high kids during her community college days. She worked as a youth director for a southern California church this fall.
