PASADENA, CA (September 2, 2009) – Several families that attend Pasadena Covenant Church were forced to temporarily evacuate their homes due to wildfires that continue to burn in the area.

At least one and possibly two families had to evacuate again after initially being allowed to return to their homes, said Jim Tyberg, the church’s administrative pastor. So far, no homes belonging to church members have been damaged.

The blaze started August 26, has burned 127,000 acres, according to news reports. Officials said earlier today that the fire was 22 percent contained but cautioned that changing weather conditions could threaten more homes.

“(The fire) has been very unpredictable,” Tyberg said.

Camille Russell Wooden, pastor of Abundant Life Covenant Bible Church in Pasadena, said the fire had not threatened any of her parishioners’ homes.

She noted that the air quality has worsened dramatically, and “There are ashes on the window sills.”
