Technical problems beyond the station’s control made broadcasting difficult. Station officials learned recently that the satellite they have tried to use – which is supposed to stay in the same spot in relation to the earth – wobbled, which often took it into an area out of the station’s signal reception.
As a result of the problems, station manager Dennis Weidler emailed Moody in April to let them know KICY would no longer carry the signal. Less than an hour later, Moody had come up with a $50,000 solution and was offering to foot the bill.
Moody erected an earth station near Chicago that now sends a direct digital signal that KICY is able to receive, says Weidler. The station had to pay for little more than the receiver.
Weidler returned from a trip in October to find the receiver had arrived at the station and was waiting to be installed. “I held my breath and offered a prayer of hope that the new receiver would find the satellite, lock on, and begin playing the audio,” he said, quickly adding, “Praise God, there it was.”
Weidler says the reception could not be better. “As I brought the audio up through the console, it sounded like I was standing in the Moody studios!”
